Football betting can be great fun, a way to escape and an interesting challenge; however, if you don’t understand the types of betting, it can be confusing and can affect the game.
First, there is the Straight Bet. When you use a straight bet, the team that you wager on must win by the point spread—the point spread that is given at the time of the wager. For straight wagers, the odds are usually $1.10 in order to win $1.00. If a game ties, that is looked on as “no action” and money is then put back into your account. Then there is Money Line Wagers. What this means is that the team that is wagered on has to win the game. For instance, the money line that is read at the time you wager, is the money line you keep—no matter what happens with the line movement. For example, if a player wagers on Wisconsin -160 at Chicago +260—then if Wisconsin wins, then the player would put down $160 to win $100.00. If the player bet on Chicago then the player would lay down 100.00 to win $260.00. More information on betting can be found at about.com.
Another type of wager is the Halftime Wager. The Halftime Wager is a wager that is made on the score of the first or second half of a game. The wager applies only to the score of the halftime period. Then there is the Parlay bet. This is a bet of two or more team selections in no order. All of the teams wagered on in a parlay must win. If; however, a tie occurs or there is no action made among the selections, the parlay goes down to the next lowest number for the payoff. In addition, no parlay bets are accepted when individual selections are connected. And, for more information on NFL betting, check out Wikipedia for more information on football betting.
