In this day and age gardening is being re-examined by people from younger generations as not just an activity that will help them to grow their own fruits and vegetables, help the environment and lower their carbon footprint. Gardening is also being looked at as a form of exercise that provides tremendous health benefits for a person’s body as well.
Vitamin D – When any person spends time outside gardening they are exposing themselves more to the sun’s rays and receiving a natural dose of Vitamin D which is an essential vitamin that our bodies need for fighting diseases like cancer and stopping bone loss.
Exercise – In today’s health conscious world there are still many people who hate to exercise but when someone spends more time outside gardening they are getting great exercise with the physical labor they are performing.
Mental Health – Gardening is also great for an individual’s mental health because every person needs to be alone every once and a while.
Personal Fulfillment – The very act of planting something and caring for it by watering, removing weeds, keeping pests away and watching that thing grow is very fulfilling and satisfying.
Cleansing – One obvious effect of performing manual labor and spending more time outside is sweating and when our bodies sweat we are cleansing our skin of free radicals and pollutants that can build up from our daily lives.
Before any individual goes outside for their next gardening session they should always remember to take the time to apply sunscreen to their skin because prolonged exposure to the sun without protection can cause skin cancer.
It’s also important to remember to drink plenty of water when working outside to stay hydrated because it’s easy for anyone to become over heated especially on hot days.
Even if you have certain reasons why you can’t start a standard garden. You can always have a hydroponics garden indoors and still receive some of the same benefits.
